Three people were injured, one seriously, Tuesday evening in a crash on Margate Boulevard at the Dock Thoroughfare Bridge.

Officers responded to the Dock Thoroughfare Bridge on Margate Boulevard around 5:30 Tuesday evening. Their investigation revealed a Jeep being driven by 47-year-old Richard Smith of Northfield was traveling west when it crossed into the eastbound lane, struck a guard rail, and crossed into the path of a car. That car was being driven by Antoinette Cutugno of Ventnor.

Smith was treated at the scene by the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics and taken to the ARMC-City Trauma Center with serious injuries. Cutugo and her passenger, Fern Kiejan of Margate, were transported to Shore Medical Center with minor injuries.

Traffic was detoured in the area for approximately 3 hours. The Dock Thoroughfare Bridge sustained structural damage and will be partially closed while it is being repaired. The crash remains under investigation.
