State Police are searching for a firebug who set a brush fire Thursday afternoon in South Jersey.

The man got out of his red Ford F-150 pickup truck with a distinctive gray hood Thursday afternoon around 3:15 p.m. and walked into a wood area on Maple Avenue in Estell Manor according to State Police. A witness told police he quickly returned to the truck and drove off with a brush fire burning.

Low humidity and gusty winds most of the week helped create ideal conditions for brush fires to develop and quickly spread, according to meteorologist Dan Zarrow.

"People who start these fires put lives in danger. They endanger not only firefighters and first responders, but they require valuable resources that may be needed elsewhere," State Police said on their Facebook page.

Anyone with information about the Estell Manor fire should call 609-571-1800.
