NJ Voters Give Obama Lowest Ever Approval Rating

President Barack Obama's job approvals number are at an all-time low, according to a new Monmouth University-Asbury Park Press poll released Wednesday.

Among all New Jersey residents, 45 percent approve of the job the president is doing while 50 percent disapprove. The numbers were even worse among registered voters in the Garden State.

"Among voters here, 41 percent approve versus 54 percent who disapprove," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. "This marks the all-time lowest rating that the president has gotten in our poll since he took office in 2009."

In June, 45 percent of New Jersey's voters approved of the president and 51 disapproved. The partisan breakdown revealed 72 percent of Democrats, 39 percent of Independents and just seven percent of Republicans approve on the job he's doing. The big story about Obama's rating drop is about why it's happening and where his support is slipping Murray explained.

"It looks like women, that big Democratic base, are the ones that are turning on the president. For the first time ever we have a negative opinion of the president among women in New Jersey. Just 45 percent approve versus 50 percent who disapprove," Murray said.

There is no gender gap because 45 percent of men approve of Obama's job performance while 49 percent disapprove.

Poll participants were also asked about the president's signature domestic policy issue which is the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare. Residents are divided. Forty-five percent have a favorable opinion while 46 percent have an unfavorable opinion. Those numbers are up slightly from June when it was 42 percent positive versus 52 percent negative.

As he seeks re-election, New Jersey U.S. Senator Cory Booker received a 42 percent approve to 23 percent disapproval rating among voters. One-third of voters (35 percent) have no opinion of the job Booker is doing. The "no opinion" number is up from 27 percent in June.
