A low-speed police chase on Valentine's Day in Middle Township ended with a driver being arrested for DWI and assaulting a police officer.

Around 8:00 last Saturday night, a Middle Township Police Officer observed a blue Honda traveling north on Route 47; the car was missing the front driver's side tire and was riding on the rim. The car failed to stop for police and a low-speed chase ensued. The pursuit ended at the driver's residence on Teal road in Rio Grande.

The driver, 40-year-old Stephen Schweizer of Rio Grande, was arrested after a brief struggle with officers. Schweizer has been charged with aggravated assault on an officer, resisting arrest, eluding, and driving while intoxicated. Schweizer was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu $25,000.
