Congressman Frank LoBiondo has announced that Cape May County Airport will be receiving just over $4.7 million in federal funding for rehabilitation of the airport's runway services.

In a statement, Rep. LoBiondo said, "New businesses and opportunities in Cape May County have rightly been tied to the airport’s growth and expansion... this federal grant will allow further investments and improvements in safety at the facilities for residents and visitors to Cape May County.”

The airport, located in Lower Township, first opened in 1941 as Naval Air Station Rio Grande. After World War II ended, the U.S Navy deeded the airport to local government, which still operates today as Cape May County Airport.

The federal funding was awarded from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program. Eligible projects include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.
