Is Chris Christie a Presidential Candidate?

Will Gov. Chris Christie run for President of the United States? That question was posed once again during the New Jersey governor’s latest town hall meeting in Long Branch.

“On the whole running for president thing, we’ll see,” Christie said. “I’m not sure; I don’t have to make a decision now, and I’m not going to. I love my job, I love doing the job. I love living here. I’ve lived here all my life.”

Christie then said when he went on vacation a few weeks ago with his family, they visited the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. There, he overheard his youngest daughter, Bridget, saying she didn’t want her father to run for president — because she likes her friends and her school, and she doesn’t want to move.

“People don’t understand, these decisions are not just about, ‘Could you win?’ or ‘Could you lose?’ or ‘Would you like the job if you got it?’” the governor said. “Your family is unbelievably affected by this, their lives will never be the same, and so we’re thinking about it. We’ll decide. We kind of like where we are now.”

Christie said the decision will ultimately come down to four variables.

If I think it’s good for me, it’s good for my family, it’s good for our state and for the country, then I’ll probably do it. But if I don’t think it’s good for all four, then I won’t.”

“You don’t make that decision based on politics,” Christie said. “If you do, and you try to predict politics in this country, you’re wasting your time because it changes on a dime, in a minute. Believe me, I’ve felt that once in a while.”

The governor then took a moment to reflect on his tenure, to date, in New Jersey’s highest office.

“No matter what happens in my life from here, whether I run for higher office or I don’t, the eight years that I will have as governor of New Jersey will just be an extraordinary, extraordinary memory for me,” he said.
