A Cape May County businessman who went missing nearly three weeks ago has been found alive in Denver, according to a private investigator hired by the family, but he's still not home.

"Carl Suit is no longer listed as missing/endangered, he has been found and appears in good condition. While in fact Carl has been found, the investigation continues," Private Investigator Kevin Ryan reported on a Facebook page set up to help with the search. "The family asks for their privacy at this time and are very grateful for the outpouring of support from not only family and friends, but the public as well."

In an interview Tuesday with Townsquare Media, Ryan said he was not sure when Suit would return to his New Jersey home. He says about 1 percent of people who go missing do not want to be found, but Suit "didn't fit that bill."

Suit left without a trace March 31. His family launched a #FindingCarl social media campaign in an effort to track him down.

Suit was tracked down thanks ATM records.

"He would've surfaced at some point, the question is where, when or how," Ryan said.

A day after his disappearance, Suit surfaced in New York City near Bryant Park, where he used an ATM machine, Ryan said. Authorities then learned that he took a bus across the country and made it as far as Denver, where it appears he used another ATM machine, Ryan said.

On Saturday, Suit’s tan 2013 Kia Soul was found locked in the Little Man parking garage in Hoboken. Ryan said a resident who had seen a picture of the car on social media noticed the locked car in the parking garage.

Ryan said Suit's wife, Lauren, who has been following leads since her husband's disappearance, discovered that Carl was staying in a hostel in Denver.

Ryan said it's still not known why he left. He said there were no major domestic issues that he was aware of. When Suit was first reported missing, he was listed as "missing/endangered" based on the fact that Suit's behavior in leaving suddenly was uncharacteristic for him.

Lower Township Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
