Egg Harbor Township police are investigating two suspicious fires that were intentionally set Monday, one at a fire house.

On Monday just after 7PM, Egg Harbor Township Police and Fire Departments responded to the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company Station 1, in the Cardiff section of the Township, in reference to a structure fire. The Cardiff and Bargaintown Fire Companies responded, extinguished the fire, and determined it had been intentionally set. Cardiff’s fire apparatus, which were housed in this station, were not damaged in the fire. Detectives from Egg Harbor Township Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to investigate this incident along with Fire Investigator Donald Stauffer.

A possible suspect was seen running from the area of the fire station before the fire was discovered. The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his late teens or early twenties, 5’ 10” in height with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and red shorts and riding a bike.

Later Monday at approximately 10:18 PM, a second arson fire was reported at a residence on Old Zion Road in the Bargaintown section of the township. A boat on a trailer next to a detached garage was discovered on fire by the homeowner, Edward Champion. The Bargaintown Fire Company responded and extinguished the fire which had also damaged the exterior of the garage. Fire officials determined this fire to also be suspicious.

The cases are being investigated by Detectives John Heim, Robert Harte and Reynold Theriault of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau.  Anyone having any information regarding these incidents should contact the Egg Harbor Township Criminal Investigation Bureau at 926-4051.
