A man from Little Egg Harbor is facing numerous charges after the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says he hit a man with his car then kept driving with the man lodged in the car's windshield.

The scene unfolded just before 7:00 Monday evening in Ocean Township, Ocean County, when police received a call about an erratic driver on Route 9. An officer observed a car on Main Street in the township with what appeared to be a person on the hood of the car. When the officer stopped the car, he found the person to be halfway through the car's windshield.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver, 33-year-old Marcos A. Ortega of Little Egg Harbor, was driving northbound on Route 9 when he allegedly struck a man who was walking on the shoulder of the road. Police say Ortega then continued driving his car -- with the man halfway through the car's windshield -- for about a mile and a half.

The man who was hit has been identified as 61-year-old Kenneth C. Moeller of Lanoka Harbor. Moeller sustained serious injuries and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

A press release says Ocean Township Police conducted field sobriety tests on Ortega at the scene which determined that Ortega was impaired. Ortega is facing charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and causing serious bodily injury to another while driving under the influence. Bail was set at $150,000.
