A fatal accident on the Garden State Parkway led to a long morning commute on the Jersey Shore.

New Jersey State Police spokesman Gregory Williams said a car ran into the tractor section of a UPS tractor trailer on the southbound side around 5:05 a.m. The driver of the truck was ejected and died; the driver of the car suffered minor injuries when their car overturned.

Williams would not yet identify the victim, pending notification of family.  A cause for the accident has not yet been determined by investigators.

All southbound lanes were closed for the investigation and cleanup of the crash, creating delays that stretched  back into Monmouth County. Williams who said there were several minor accidents within the delay. There were also northbound rubbernecking delays that began in Toms River, with a few more accidents, according to New Jersey Fast Traffic with a couple of more accidents.

Townsquare Media's Bob Williams said Route 34, Route 9 and Route 70 picked up extra volume from drivers trying to avoid the closure.
