Body Found at the Scene of a Fire in Lower Township Identified

Officials in Cape May County have identified a body that was found at the scene of a fire in the Shaw Crest Mobile Home Park located off of Route 47 in Lower Township last month.

Earlier this week, the Southern Regional Medical Examiners’ Office positively identified the remains as those of 24-year-old Samuel L. Mathues.

A couple weeks ago, police and fire crews arrived at the intersection of Diane and Channel Avenues in Lower Township and found a maintenance trailer at Shaw Crest Mobile Home Park fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was put out, the remains of an unidentified male were found in the structure.

The Cape May County Prosecutors Office says Mathues was living at the mobile home park at the time of his death. The cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
