A woman from Atlantic City was indicted Wednesday for the attempted murder of her child last October.

24-year-old Patricia A. Shurig was indicted today on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges for jumping into the ocean from a jetty while holding her 1-month-old infant back in October, 2014.

It was back on October 26th when emergency responders rushed to New Hampshire and Pacific Avenues in Atlantic City for reports that a woman jumped into the ocean while holding her baby. Both the woman and child were rescued by bystanders and treated at ARMC-City Campus. Commenting to The Press of Atlantic City about the rescue, Atlantic City Police spokesperson Sgt. Monica McMenamin hailed the bravery of the bystanders, calling the case, “a great outcome to a nearly deadly indecent.”

Shurig faces 10 to 20 years in prison if she is convicted on the attempted murder charge and five to ten years in prison on the aggravated assault charge.
